Our Programs & Initiatives
United Way works to transform the lives of children, youth, and adults in Southwestern Indiana so everyone has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
Youth Literacy
UWWV administers programs to foster a love of reading among young children by sending them one book each month from birth until age 5.
AABLI
In 2023 the United Way of the Wabash Valley launched the African-American Board Leadership Institute (AABLI).
Home Down Payment Assistance Program
This program will provide up to 5% in assistance (3% down payment and 2% for closing costs) for the purchase of a home up to a price of $80,000
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is an initiative to connect and empower people to care for each other by helping with simple projects in their homes and lives.
Our programs focused on Youth Literacy include Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Real Men Read, Reading Neighboors, and Book Nook. The children in our community grow up to be our future teachers, doctors, scientists, politicians, business owners, and employees. Regardless of who you are, you are affected by how well our children read.
To truly Live United, we must include all voices in our community. AABLI works to help provide skills and knowledge for potential community leaders by providing a deep-dive look into governance responsibilities through a variety of activities. This program will work to build up the strengths of African-American leaders and connect them in the community.
The United Way of the Wabash Valley Home Down Payment Assistance Program has been formulated to ease the path to homeownership. For many households, a down payment assistance program can help to make homebuying more affordable, and this program aims to make homebuying easier for qualifying families.
Wabash Valley Neighbors Helping Neighbors (WVNHN) is an easy-to-use platform. Everyone, at one point or another, needs a helping hand from a caring neighbor. Through an easy-to-use website, it connects homeowners who have small fix-it projects with volunteers who have the skills and time to make the repairs.
