“Being financially secure is critical for people to live productive lives, while also growing the economy and workforce.”
The Challenge
Too many people in the Wabash Valley know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet. More than half our community is ALICE or below, which means their paychecks often cannot cover basic needs costs of food, housing, healthcare and childcare. And they are unable to save for the future.
At United Way, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to earn a living that can sustain a family and build security for future generations. When people work in jobs that provide living wages, they live healthier, less stressful lives. They can weather the financial bumps in the road that we all face, and they can save for the future. They have improved work performance, and their children perform better in school. Our community will only prosper and grow if all families are financially stable.
