Strengthening Behavioral Health Supports for Youth and Families

Continuing its longstanding commitment to reducing barriers and expanding access to behavioral health services, in 2025, United Way of the Wabash Valley awarded $169,000 in grants to the following organizations working across all six counties it serves:

Chances and Services for Youth — $40,000

To expand CASY Counseling’s capacity to serve more individuals, children, and families, with a focus on children ages 0-10 and perinatal mental health.

Council on Domestic Abuse (CODA) — $9,880

To expand access to mental health counseling for shelter residents, clients, and staff by partnering with a local counseling provider to offer both in-person and telehealth therapy. 

Human Resources Center of Edgar and Clark Counties (HRC) — $10,000

To continue placing embedded mental health therapists and recovery support specialists inside schools in Marshall, Casey, and Martinsville. 

Naveen — $20,000

To support the launch of a new psychiatry graduate medical education (GME) residency program, strengthening the mental health workforce in the Wabash Valley.

Ruth House — $40,000

To expand Ruth House’s staffing and operational capacity, allowing the rural Sullivan County-based recovery residence to safely serve more women.

University of Illinois Extension (Clark, Crawford, and Edgar Counties) — $2,000

To provide elementary schools with age-appropriate social-emotional learning kits based on the Mindful Me curriculum. 

Vigo County Education Foundation – Sarah Scott Middle School — $2,936

To transform an unused classroom into a dedicated sensory room, giving students a calming, structured environment to regulate emotions, de-escalate when overwhelmed, and re-engage in learning. 

Wabash Valley Recovery Center — $34,160

To support a full-time Peer Recovery Coach, training, and space to expand recovery services in Clark County, Illinois.
